Some principles of the Silent Way
This is an exercise I learnt from Caleb Gattegno years and years ago. It could not be simpler and illustrates some key points from the Silent Way.
- Write the word signature on the board.
- Ask the class to come up with as many words made up from the letters of the word:
sign, net, nature, reign and so on
- You can set a time limit and make it competitive if you like.
This exercise can be a warm up or a filler. Lesson one three letter words in a minute, lesson two 4 letter words etc.
It can be multilevel. Students compete but chose all three letter words or all for letter word or all five letter words.
- a little is a lot
- text from students
- set up and step back
- a restriction makes an exercise work
