The Sweet Smell of My Teaching Reflection

Singgih Widodo Limantoro is an associate professor of Business English of Politeknik Ubaya Surabaya, Indonesia. He has presented his papers in many ELT international conferences in Indonesia, South-Korea, Cambodia, and Thailand. The following poem is his reflection on his professional journey as an EFL teacher.

Reflection is looking at beautiful roses in a garden

Reflection is seeking the fragrance and the beauty of the roses

‘Till I can see the beautiful color and the sweet smell of the roses

As John Keats, a British poet once said, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever.”

When I can see the roses bloom and grow

I feel that I have done my job as a professional gardener

When I can see the accomplishment of my students

I feel joy for I have done my job well as a professional teacher.
