Pilgrims News: Pilgrims on the Move – Initiatives for 2026, Phil Dexter, Pilgrims Teacher Training coordinator and editor the Teacher Trainer Journal

As we have emerged into 2026 Pilgrims is ready to offer a number of initiatives for continuous professional development which we hope will meet the needs of teacher and teacher educators in various ways.

Before getting into all that… Pilgrims is delighted to highlight that this month represents the 20th anniversary of Hania Kryszewska taking over as editor of Humanising Language Teaching from Mario Rinvolucri. In ensuring the continuation and quality of HLT through these 20 years as a voice for teachers and language teaching professionals we honour Hania and here creativity, innovative approach and professionalism and look forward to her continued role in HLT. Thank you Hania.

Now, how is Pilgrims on the move?

  1. We are once again organising in-person training in Segovia with four courses on offer – information is available on the Pilgrims website  https://www.pilgrims.co.uk/teacher-training-courses/pilgrims-in-segovia  We would love to work with you in Segovia in July and you can book a place through the above website or if you would like more information do send an email to info@pilgrims.co.uk  These courses attract Erasmus + funding and we are represented on the European School Education Platform. More details on this also on our website in the link above.

We are also continuing our collaboration with Learn and Lead Innovation hosting two course in Segovia in August.

  1. While in-person training is an essential aspect of our Pilgrims DNA and so important for our humanistic approach in teaching and learning. It is a reality that for all sorts of reasons in-person teaching and training is likely to be just one offer. Given that, Pilgrims is working on an online offer for CPD which will be available later in the year. More information on this will be available on our website and we will update in future issues of HLT.
  2.  Our magazines Humanising Language Teaching and our Teacher Trainer Journal are both free unique magazines where we ensure we give voice to teachers and trainers across the world. We are proud of the quality of both magazines as we continue to publish through 2026 and beyond. This year there are a few changes and HLT will be published four times a year in February, May, August and November. TTJ will be published in March, June and October.  We are also looking at new initiatives promoting both magazines and we are pleased to announce that we will are organising an exciting online conference over the weekend of 26th and 27th September. More information on this will soon be available, too.
  3. An innovative feature of the Teacher Trainer Journal has been our video interview conversations with teacher educators across the world. You can access the current issue and our back archive through this link https://pilgrimsttj.com  On Saturday 21st February the Teacher Trainer Journal is hosting a live panel discussion on “ Using AI in the humanistic language classroom”  We  know there is huge interest in the role of AI in language teaching and we have a great expert panel – Isil Boy, Nik Peachey and Jamie Keddie with varying views on AI.

More information is available elsewhere  in this current issue of HLT and if you would like to join us please send an email to info@pilgrims.co.uk and you will be sent the zoom link for the event. As we state in the advert for the event “AI has the ‘potential’ to be an enormous force for good within education. It also has the ‘potential’ to do enormous harm. How that potential is realised depends on our ability to help our students understand and negotiate how to use it wisely”.

A Pilgrims colleague over many years in Canterbury – Mike Shreeve - has an article in this current issue of HLT on “AI and the Humanistic Method” – please do read it.

  1. As mentioned in the December issue of HLT we are offering paid advertising in the Teacher Trainer Journal for the global ELT community to promote their products. We are pleased to say that HLT will now also offer this opportunity and more details can be found in the pages of the current HLT magazine.
  2. We continue to be present at conferences – Stefy Ballotto is a plenary speaker at TESOL Spain with Phil Dexter, Anna Pires, Anabel Reis Alves and Annie Altamirano also presenting.   Hania Kryszewska, Stefy Ballotto and Phil Dexter will be presenting at IATEFL in Brighton in April and Csilla Jaray-Benn at APPI, Portugal with a plenary and the same team from TESOL Spain also going to APPI. If you are attending any of these conferences please do look us up – we will be pleased to discuss all our Pilgrims initiatives in 2026 with you.
