Luke

Luke Prodromou has died, after being slowly destroyed by painful, degenerative Motor Neurone Disease. Everyone who met this amazing man has their own memories, and I hope you don't mind me sharing mine. Luke was wise, scholarly, imaginative, but also sometimes argumentative and difficult. Does anyone remember the day at TESOL Spain when he hi-jacked Michael Lewis's lexical approach talk? Luke was also an absolute joy to work with, but not afraid to make critical comments about what you did.

The most recent time we worked together was the celebration of Shakespeare's women that we did with Lilika Couri and others for TESOL Greece last year. I also cherish a tour of Russia about twenty years ago, and a Dickens presentation at TESOL Arabia in Dubai in 2013 - although it's telling that I was a last-minute replacement for his regular Dickens partner, because they'd had a row the previous day. Last but not least, a wonderful summer school we did in Poland, where we took this set of photographs, each depicting a different mood.

So sad that Luke has passed, but it's a relief to know that the terrible suffering has ended.
