  • Busy with limited time: Every session must feel purposeful and time-efficient.
  • Rich experience and self-awareness: Their backgrounds can be valuable learning resources.
  • High expectations: They look for professionalism, respect, and effective teaching methods.

 

The Role and Qualities of an Effective Teacher for Adults

  • Knowledgeable and professional: Strong content knowledge, punctuality, confidence, and appropriate appearance.
  • Active, respectful listener: Understand learners’ goals and explain the purpose of each activity.
  • Class manager: Set clear objectives, handle mixed proficiency levels, and maintain a respectful atmosphere.
  • Supporter of autonomy: Assign practical homework (emails, presentations, real conversations) and offer extra resources.
